Our mission is to promote emotional and spiritual wellbeing among those affected by cancer and other illness through the creative arts.
Many of the patients we work with are alone in the hospital for weeks and months at a time receiving treatment. Anxiety, depression, loneliness, and sheer boredom add to the suffering they already face with a cancer diagnosis. Most pediatric oncology floors overflow with activity and resources. Adult floors seem like a barren wasteland in comparison.
At Hearts Need Art, we use the arts to alleviate feelings of isolation and suffering in adult cancer patients and their families in the hospital. We use evidence-based healing art programs to enrich the healthcare experience and improve patient care. After participating in our programs, our patients report less pain, less worry, and less isolation.
How you can help
We provide our services free of charge to patients and families but our programs are not free. We rely on support from people in the community to stand in the gap for these patients who would not otherwise be able to afford these services.
Help Hearts Need Art continue to provide transformative healing-art activities free of charge to patients, families, and staff in the San Antonio area. Sign up to volunteer, become an HNA Ambassador, and Donate Today!
