Ashley Villalobos teaches a Zentangle class to patients and caregivers.

Art classes redirect focus away from stressful stimuli and into a relaxed, meditative state. Along with other therapeutic applications, art classes offer a welcome distraction for patients and family. Similar programs show a reduction in pain and use of pain medication while patients engage in a creative activity. Classes encourage connection between other patients and families going through similar circumstances. Positive social support boosts patient moral and promotes overall wellbeing.
